Cost vary from student to student due to numerous factors. The majority of students spend around fifteen thousand dollars, this price includes aircraft rental, instruction, checkride, and study material.


  • Be at least 17 years old.
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.
  • Hold at least a third-class medical certificate issued by an FAA-authorized aviation medical examiner.Log a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, including:
  • At least 20 hours of flight training with an instructor, including 3 hours of cross-country flight training and 3 hours of night flight training.
  • At least 10 hours of solo flight time, including 5 hours of solo cross-country flights.


Obtain a Private Pilot License (PPL):

  • Begin your journey by enrolling in a flight school and earning a Private Pilot License (PPL).
  • Requirements: Typically, you must be at least 17 years old and meet medical and knowledge requirements.
  • Training: You'll receive flight training and pass a practical test.

Obtain an Instrument Rating (IR):

  • An Instrument Rating allows you to fly in various weather conditions, including low visibility and clouds.
  • You'll undergo additional training and pass a practical test.

Earn a Commercial Pilot License (CPL):

  • A CPL allows you to be compensated for your flying services.
  • You'll need to meet flight hour requirements (usually 250-300 hours) and pass a checkride.

Obtain a Multi-Engine Rating (ME):

  • For most airline jobs, you'll need a Multi-Engine Rating to operate aircraft with multiple engines.
  • Training includes both ground and flight instruction.

Obtain an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL):

  • Requirements include a minimum total flight time (usually 1,500 hours in the United States), age restrictions (typically 23 years old), and passing the ATP written and practical exams.
